In the UK, many people have been using CBD oil for anxiety, but what is it and what really is the right CBD dosage for anxiety?
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a type of cannabinoid, which is one of the many chemical compounds found naturally in cannabis (marijuana and hemp) plants. Unlike another compound or cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD doesn’t get you high or give you any of those psychoactive feelings many people are apprehensive to experience. Instead, early research has shown that there are many therapeutic benefits of CBD, such as taking CBD oil to help relieve anxiety.
So How Does CBD Work?
The human body has many different receptors which are protein-based chemical structures that are attached to your cells. Each of these receptors receive signals from different stimuli. CBD is believed to interact with your CB1 and CB2 receptor – the receptors found in your central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system, respectively.
It is still not fully understood exactly how the CBD interacts or affects the CB1 receptors, but it is believed that due to its positive impact with anxiety, it is most likely linked to impacting our serotonin.
Serotonin, a neurotransmitter, plays an important role in our mental health. Low serotonin levels are commonly associated with people who have depression and anxiety. There are many treatments that can help with people with low serotonin levels, but many of these are only available with a prescription. As such, many people try to manage their condition using more natural remedies such as CBD.
Is CBD legal?
Yes, in the UK, you are allowed to buy CBD products provided that they have been derived from hemp rather than marijuana, and have zero to trace amounts of THC. Marijuana derived CBD products are illegal over here. There is also a new regulation in the UK pertaining to CBD edibles called Novel Foods. This requires all CBD edible products to have been certified or authorised under this directive. This means that all CBD edibles including CBD oil in a tincture must have applied for this to be legally sold in the UK.
What Is The Best Cbd Dosage For Anxiety?
As with any and all things we ingest or take, we will all respond very differently. What works for a particular ailment with you, might not work as well for me. This means we must all look at our respective treatments personally and try out to see what is best for your particular physiology. As a result, when someone asks what dosage is best, there is also no one size fits all. We’d always suggest starting low and then grow. Nice little rhyme to help you remember!
If you are experiencing serious anxiety or mental health issues, you may need to consider a much more concentrated version of CBD. Many of the options in the market may not be strong enough per dose to help with extreme disorders and may require medicinal grade levels. It is always recommended to consult with your doctor or a health specialist, and Forbes Pro Magazine recommends exploring all options available to find the best solution for your needs.
